Proven Problem Solver
wants to join Park City Council!

About John “JK” Kenworthy

Park City is truly a magical place we all call home, and together—as friends of the truth—we now face some serious community challenges.

From childcare to senior care, from affordable housing to transit, and everything in between, our city needs problem solvers who are committed to getting things done. I am a proven problem solver—not in some far-off city or state, but right here in Summit and Wasatch Counties—right here in Park City.

In the private sector, I developed River’s Edge Resort and Campground, a seasonal housing campus that housed over 4,500 seasonal workers from 2008 to 2024without a single dollar of government subsidy. True problem solvers are fiscally responsible.

In my public service as a Park City Planning Commissioner, I helped unify the commission and led efforts that resulted in 208 affordable housing units in the re-zoned Studio Crossing development, now under construction at 248 and Highway 40. This was a win-win for both the community and the developer—and once again, it was accomplished at no cost to Park City taxpayers. It proves that we can do the “impossible” when we listen to the community and learn from experts.

As Chair of the Historic Preservation Board, I brought our board together to protect the unique historic character of Main Street, working on key preservation projects such as the Park Avenue and Library transformations. I learned the true value of historic preservation through the stories only our preservation efforts can tell.

In 2008, I opened Flanagan’s on Main, an Irish pub that honors Father Edward J. Flanagan, an Irish immigrant priest who, in 1917, opened his home to orphan boys of every race, creed, and color—one of whom was my grandfather. That home was the first of its kind. In 1924, my grandfather, along with a dozen other orphans, performed a minstrel show here on Main Street at the Federal Bandstand, located directly across from where Flanagan’s stands today. Now, Father Flanagan is up for sainthood, and I’ve just completed my first book in a trilogy honoring his legacy as a civil rights and social reform pioneer. Diversity and inclusion are at my core.

Historic preservation is more than a talking point—it’s an economic driver and our competitive edge. If elected, I pledge to protect historic Old Town, expand its vibrancy by improving ingress and egress, and work toward implementing a car-lite options during peak and festival seasons. Together, we can do this!

Park City belongs to its people.

If we rally together, there is no problem we cannot solve. My leadership comes from listening to constituents, learning from experienced experts, and taking action—as proven by my track record. There’s work to be done to get our home in order, and I would be honored if Parkites put me to work as their next City Councilor.

Let’s get ‘er done.
